The Class 4 cyclone warning is expected to be lifted at 10pm. Nevertheless, all schools will remain closed on Thursday 3rd February and may resume next week. This will include pre-primary, primary, secondary, tertiary, SEN, technical and vocational schools.
“We will have to make a survey in all schools and a decision will be communicated tomorrow to decide on the start of the school year,” announced Leela Devi Dookun Lutchoomun, the Minister of Education, at a meeting of the National Crisis Committee in the afternoon of Wednesday 2nd February. Thus, classes will continue online. The state of all schools will be assessed on Thursday 3rd February and school principals and non-teaching staff will have to be present for this exercise. As a result, the vaccination campaign will also be interrupted, until a later date.
