Education And Job Meetup To Offer Career Pathways To Young Mauritians

A two-day Education and Job Meetup, aiming to provide a platform to the youth to find jobs and enhance their job search network and assist employers to find qualified workers, was officially launched yesterday by the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation, Mr Jean Christophe Stephan Toussaint, at the Côte d’Or National Sports Complex.

The launching ceremony was preceded by a talk show on job opportunities and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on education, tourism and ICT sectors.

The guest speakers were the Managing Director at Astek Mauritius Ltd, Mrs Jenny Chan, the Chief Executive Officer of Vatel Mauritius, Mr Renaud Azema, the Chief People Officer and Group Legal Counsel of Beachcomber Resorts and Hotels, Mr Sebastian La Hausse de Lalouvière, and the Managing Partner of Nemesys, Mrs Nelina S. Mootyen.

In his address, Minister Toussaint urged the youth to avail themselves of training and employment opportunities being offered by different companies. Some 1000 jobs are being offered in several sectors including in ICT, BPO and tourism, he said.

The Minister dwelt on the perks attached to the jobs including competitive salary packages, promotions, and career advancement adding that the fair will provide excellent networking and openings to secure jobs.

The event, an initiative of the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation in collaboration with the private sector, is being held in the context of the National Youth Civic Service Programme. Some 30 companies of the private sector are participating.
