Drug Trafficking: SMF Sergeant Kept In Custody

Another law enforcement officer has been locked up for drug trafficking. This time it is a 52-year-old sergeant, Suviraj Sharma Domun, assigned to the Special Mobile Force. He is suspected of being a major distributor of cannabis in the Vacoas area.

He has been under the radar of the Anti Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU) for some time and on Friday 30 July, he was caught in the net of the anti-drug squad.

As soon as he arrived at his place of work at the SMF, the sergeant saw his car surrounded by members of the ADSU and some of his colleagues from the SMF.  The police officers searched the vehicle in his presence. They found cannabis worth one million rupees as well as cash was also found on the sergeant. The police seized his Warrant Card, SMF Service Pass, Police Badge and identity card. Sergeant Suviraj Sharma Domun appeared before the Bail and Remand Court on Saturday, July 31, where he was charged with drug trafficking.  He is being held in the Curepipe police cell and will be back in court on Monday 2 August.

It should be noted that the sergeant has 34 years of service in the police force.
