A father of triplets, Dr. Vinaye Goodary is a happy man. His three children, only a minute apart, are his life.
At 45 years old, Vinaye Goodary lives in Grand-Gaube with his wife Hema and their triplets: Gyanam – the eldest, Hya – the youngest and Yeshu – the youngest of this unusual family.
The year is 2011. Married for 10 years, the Goodary couple has a dream of becoming parents. To make this dream a reality, they decided to use in vitro fertilization: “We went to India where the doctor fertilized three embryos as per the protocol. Back in Mauritius, we did a first ultrasound which showed that we were expecting twins. And after one month of pregnancy, my wife and I were pleasantly surprised to learn that we were going to be parents of triplets, which is rare when using in vitro fertilization,” said Dr. Goodary Associate Professor at MGI.
But after the surprise and joy, the Goodary couple was faced with a dilemma: “My wife’s doctors told us that one of the three fetuses had to be removed to allow the other two to develop properly. But since the exercise was not without risk for the other two babies either, we decided to leave it to nature and keep all three.”
8 months later, on April 9, 2012, the triplets were born: “It was an indescribable joy. We were so happy that we did not find it difficult. But, it must also be said that we had hired three babysitters to be at my wife’s bedside at all times.”
Now 9 years old, the Goodary triplets are, according to their father, one of the tightest siblings: “Since they are not identical triplets, they each have their own personality even though they are always together.”
Describing himself as a real father hen, Vinaye says he is very close to his children: “They feel at ease with me. At home, it’s their mom who disciplines them. I’m much more flexible with them.
