The three leaders of the Labour-MMM-PMSD alliance faced the press this morning. Navin Ramgoolam expressed his satisfaction with the support of the political platform at Pointe Canon on 1st February. He also commented on the Prime Minister’s statement this week that losing an election is not the end of the world. For Navin Ramgoolam, it is clear that the Prime Minister has already internalized his defeat. He advised the leader of the executive to leave it to the people to decide who will form the next government. The former Prime Minister also commented on the dengue situation in Mauritius. He deplored the government’s catastrophic management of the epidemic. He warns that the country is at great risk because the necessary measures have not been taken. He also urged the population to make sure they are registered on the electoral register. He asked them to take pictures of the form they have to fill in during the registration process. He also criticised Showkutally Soodhun for his remarks on Ram Dhurmea.
Duval promises to build drains efficiently and carefully once in power.
He was alongside Paul Bérenger and Navin Ramgoolam at a press conference this morning. The Opposition Leader said that the country had been traumatised by the aftermath of Cyclone Belal last January. He listed a series of measures that will be taken once the Labour-MMM-PMSD alliance is in power. These include building drainage systems in an efficient and well-designed way, creating a police and fire brigade team to deal with natural disasters and ensuring that refugee centres can accommodate refugees with dignity. Xavier-Luc Duval also called for a temporary halt to the construction of some IRS and ERS projects to assess their impact on rainwater drainage. He also said that the education system has failed.
Bérenger: “We will be together to celebrate the 1st of May,”
In a press conference this morning, Paul Bérenger announced that the Labour Party, the MMM and the PMSD were together on the 1st of February. He announced that it would be the same for Labour Day. He said that the platform had made a request to the Municipality of Port-Louis to book the esplanade since November 2023, but the request is still being processed. Paul Bérenger also announced that the three parties would celebrate International Women’s Day together.
