Death Of Claude Obeegadoo, The Father Of The DPM

Claude Obeegadoo, the father of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Housing, Lands and Tourism, Steven Obeegadoo, passed away at the age of 91 on Sunday night, May 8. He was the husband of Primerose Obeegadoo, the organizer of the Miss Mauritius competition.

Claude Obeegadoo is best known in the world of education as he was a pillar of Trinity College, a founding member and former president of the Indo Mauritian Catholic Association (IMCA). With a BSC in Mathematics, he had an excellent command of the language of Shakespeare, but was a good diplomat.

He was an active member of the Rotary Club and served as President. In 1972, he became the 9th President of the Rotary Club of Port Louis. Two years after the famous 60 Zeros 1982, the MMM/PSM government had chosen him to occupy the post of Ambassador of Mauritius to Great Britain.

He was often seen at the church of St Jean a few years ago with his wife Primerose Obeegadoo, the organizer of the Miss Mauritius competition.

To his wife Primerose and his children and in particular Minister Steven Obeegadoo, his son Kevin, as well as to his relatives, Le Matinal Media presents its sincere condolences to Primerose and his two sons Steven and Kevin, as well as to his relatives.
