As Hollywood actor Hugh Jackman is set to return as Wolverine in “Deadpool 3”, the Australian actor posted a behind-the-scenes image of himself training for the role with his trainer Beth Lewis.
Hugh Jackman, 54, tweeted, “He’s only older. I’m 46. But it’s not a competition” and tagged Ryan Reynolds, who did not miss the teasing post and tweeted a humour-loaded response saying, “Beth Lewis whatever you’re doing it’s working! Your arms look incredible.”
Jackman is undergoing an intense six-month workout regime to get in shape for his role as Wolverine. In January 2023, the actor said, “I’ve learned you can’t rush it. I’ve learned that it takes time. So, we have six months from when I finish to when I start filming. And I’m not doing any other work. I’m going to be with my family and train. That’s going to be my job for six months”
Fans are familiar with Jackson and Reynold’s friendly rivalry, constantly roasting each other on social media. The relationship between the two actors has gained much attention from the fans.
Deadpool 3 to directly lead into Avengers: The Kang Dynasty
According to rumours, Deadpool 3 will directly lead into Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) Phase Six, setting the stage for the Avengers: the Kang Dynasty.
The rumour started in an episode of Cosmic Circus’ The Cosmic Circle podcast which claimed that Ryan Reynolds starrer Deadpool will enter the MCU laying the groundwork for the Kang Dynasty. The rumour is also said to explain the importance of the Multiverse’s concept to MCU and place Wade Wilson, aka Deadpool, to play a key role in the shared universe’s future. But Marvel Studios has not yet commented on the rumour publicly.
Currently, there is little detail about the plot of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, which was announced at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2022. The director of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Tens Rings, Destin Daniel, is set to direct the film, working with the screenplay writer of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Jeff Loveness. So far, one cast member is confirmed, Quantumania star Jonathan Majors, who is set to play the role of the supervillain Kang the Conqueror.
In a recent interview, Majors discussed that the project will challenge the audiences’ predetermined notions of what an MCU movie is.
It is unclear how Deadpool 3 will align with the MCU, screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick noted that they had access to all heroes and villains of the shared universe.
Though the plot of Deadpool 3 is not yet revealed, Jackman clarified how the film is placed on the timeline setting out his other non-MCU X-Men movies. He confirmed that Deadpool 3 is set before the events of 2017’s Logan, which tells how his character, Wolverine, is alive.
Jackman said, “I did tell (Logan director Hames Mangold) that (Deadpool 3) took place before our movie. So, it wasn’t going to screw up… with the claws coming out of the grave. So, he was relieved by that.”
Deadpool 3 and Avengers: The Kang Dynasty will arrive in cinemas on Nov. 8, 2024, and May 2, 2025, respectively.
Professor X could cameo in Deadpool 3
There is a possibility for Sir Patrick Stewart to cameo in Deadpool 3 to set Wolverine’s path in the movie. The two characters (Hugh Jackman and Sir Patrick Stewart) were seen in their original characters in the Logan movie, in which both die showing the closest bond in the X-Men series.
In an interview with ComicBook.com, Sir Patrick Stewart was asked about his possible return to his iconic role in Marvel Studios’ Deadpool 3. The actor said, “I’ve been told to stand by. I know nothing more than that, honest.”
Deadpool meddled with time travel at the end of Deadpool 2 alerting MCU’s Time Variance Authority from Loki, who goes behind Deadpool. When the character begins jumping into different realities is how he encounters Wolverine and tags him along the way.
If this happens, Professor X could appear in a different timeline.
