651 active cases: This is the summary of this Saturday, 17 July published at 18:30 by the Ministry of Health. 10 new cases, seven were detected in test centres and three others during a contact tracing exercise. However, it is a mess on the side of the infected dormitories. The ministry ordered the self-isolation of several hundred expatriates.
It concerns the dormitories of Princes Tuna in Riche Terre and R.E.A.L Garments at La Tour Koenig. In the evening of last Friday, 56 cases were detected on an exercise on those residents, expatriates of the Princes tuna dormitory. The dormitory has been changed to a quarantine centre where all residents are in quarantine. The other employees, Mauritians, were asked to observe emergency self-isolation. The tuna factory had to close its doors for disinfection of premises. The factory should be allowed to resume its activities on Monday 19, however with a reduced number of staff.
For R.E.A.L Garments, at the last count, one Malagasy, eight Mauritians and 87 Bangladeshis are confirmed. From an internal investigation of this factory, this massive and rapid spread is due to an employee who was in close contact with the member of the Helicopter Squadron who tested positive and who was at this famous birthday party in Bois Chéri two weeks ago now. She was traveling in R.E.A.L Garments public transport, which should explain the infections that followed. The 96 employees who tested positive are under observation at the quarantine centre in Pointes aux Sables. But the 74 Malagasy and 726 Bangladeshis who constitute the foreign workers of the factory are in auto isolation in their dormitories as a precautionary measure. However, there are no further details on the Mauritian employees of this plant if they were asked for auto isolation or not. The premises were temporarily closed and fumigated.
