Covid 19: Several Dormitories Infected in Vacoas

Must Read

No relief for the Ministry of Health laboratory workers. This Sunday, more than a hundred new cases have been counted with new admissions to the ENT Hospital in Vacoas. This treatment centre regrets the death of a patient in her sixties, who had been admitted for treatment with Covid-19. However, what keeps us on our toes are the cases of Covid detected in around half a dozen dormitories in Vacoas turning them into quarantine spots.

102 cases, that is, 97 asymptomatic and 5 admitted. The deceased patient is a resident of Bonne Mère in Flacq. She was in her sixties and had already been fully inoculated but she was still Covid positive and had other comorbidities. Her death is not fully attributed to Covid-19.

However, today’s figure could be wrong or would be included in tomorrow’s statistics. Other cases have been reported in two villages in Flacq, but above all, half a dozen dormitories in Vacoas have been quarantined after more than twenty positive cases have been detected in several dormitories. The dormitories are home to foreign textile factory workers and construction workers working for the Ministry of Public Infrastructure.  Faizal Ally Beegun Coowar begs the government not to install barriers for the Special Mobile Force and the Special Support Unit. “The government should leave security to security agents working at those dormitories. It could be acceptable to have a maximum of two police officers on the premises of these establishments concerned. We must not create a psychosis around these employees who are only infected by a virus“, he regretted, deploring that “the image of the country is affected, the image of these employees and they are also psychologically disturbed by this treatment“.

The percentage increases to 0.31% of the population infected. 683,642 people have received a first dose of vaccine and 554,031 people are fully inoculated. The 17 vaccination centres will be open to the general public from Monday 2 August.
