Covid 19: 5 Educational Establishments Closed, Pfizer For Under 18

Five educational establishments will only reopen on Monday 26th July. These are the Loreto College in St-Pierre and the Rampersad Goburdhun Government School in Rivière du Rempart, the Lady P.K Boolell Primary School in Montagne-Blanche, Nouvelle France Governement School and the Mauritius Institute of Training and Development (MITD) in Port Louis that are in disinfection.

5 closed establishments

These establishments will be under a disinfection process and will not be able to resume until next Monday. At the MITD in Nicolay, Port Louis, the detection was made yesterday on a textile student. The staff union has called for a closure and massive screening because of the use of the common areas of the establishment. At the Loreto College in St Pierre, it is a lady trainee teacher who was tested positive. At Lady P.K Boolell in Montagne-Blanche, it was a parent of a student who contracted the virus, tested a week ago, but the child attended school during the week. A teacher tested positive at Rampersad Goburdhun Government School. As for the Nouvelle France Government School, a student in Grade 5 was positive.

Still open despite 5 new cases

A quite particular case at Cosmopolitan College Boys, while five other cases have been detected among students, but the Private Secondary Education Authority (PSEA) has not yet given the green light for a new closure of the reopened institution on Wednesday. There are staff members and students who have not yet received their PCR tests’ results since the first closure…

Unanswered interrogations

It should be noted that all the parties concerned, students, staff and parents question the intentions and actions of the Ministry of Education. The infected student or staff is sent to quarantine, schools close for mass disinfection and resume two days later, with each new case detected. Pfizer in August

In parliament, Dr Kailesh Jagutpal, Minister of Health, spoke about the reception during the month of August of a shipment of Pfizer vaccines from the African Union that will be reserved for students under the age of 18. However, the inoculation will be done at presentation of a duly signed consent form.
