Covid 19: 44 New Cases Found Without Any Symptoms

The counting on 2nd August does not include any serious cases, which means that the 44 new cases are without any symptoms. However, several schools are still closed or being disinfected.

In isolation in dormitories

A massive screening has been organised in Vacoas on expatriate workers living in the dormitories of a large textile factory. There are indeed many foreigners in the Vacoas area living in these six dormitories, which are used for both textile and construction workers. The confirmed positive cases found are scattered amongst the expatriates. Those who have been in contact with the expatriates tested positive are now in isolation.

Schools under disinfection

The Hindu Girls College, Curepipe, remained closed on Monday 2nd August and will be closed tomorrow following the contamination of a Grade 7 student revealed over the weekend.  The same fate for the SSS of Quartier Militaire, which took its decision this morning, Monday 2nd August where a teacher has been tested positive.

As of this Monday, it has been announced that the Sainte-Thérèse RCA School in Curepipe will be closed for three days after a student tested positive. The parents of pupils admitted in grades 4, 5 and 6 have been asked to collect their children during the day. The school will resume on Thursday 5 August as indicated by the management. Similar case at Notre Dame de Lourdes, Rose-Hill. Two students in Grade 1 and 6 tested positive for Covid-19 and the Diocesan Catholic Education Service has initiated the health protocol.

Parents worried

At the Nest Arts Academy, three positive cases have been identified. They are two children in Grade 5 and 6 respectively and a teacher. According to Kalian Gungah, principal of the public school, they are all linked to the driver who tested positive on 21 July. As the parents’ fear is growing, they are no longer sending their children to school. Thus, the decision to close the school for a week.

There are also isolated cases in Surinam, Flacq, Vacoas, Pailles and Port Louis, which have been quarantined.

To date, we have 687,770 people who have already received a first dose of vaccine and 557,578 people have been fully inoculated. It is estimated that 0.31% of the population has been affected by Covid 19.
