Covid 19: 38 Cases And 1 Death

This Sunday 26 December, we deplore a death case admitted to the hospital ENT. In the last 24 hours, the country has recorded 38 new cases.

The deceased is a 55 years old woman residing Port Louis. After her admission, her condition deteriorated rapidly. Attributed to Covid 19, her death has been reported to the police on 26 December.

The number of positive cases was 38, including 11 admissions to the 5 regional hospitals and 1 to the ENT hospital. In terms of discharges, 9 patients from the regional hospitals were able to return home. Since March 2021, Mauritius has recorded 23,208 cases of Covid-19 infection. To date, 21,761 people have been cured of the disease

As far as the vaccination campaign is concerned, 946,313 people have been vaccinated, 909,900 have received two doses and 178,064 the third doses.

Non-compliance to health restrictions : 385 fines of Rs 2000 each

Although the rate of fines is lower than in December 2020, the fact remains that the public is taking risks during this festive period. The police are making their intransigence clear during the festive season. There are more than 10,000 police officers on patrol throughout the island.

If on Christmas Eve, the number of fines for not wearing masks was 303, by Saturday 25 December, 385 people were fined Rs 2000 for not complying with health restrictions. And in the last 24 hours, 149 motorists were fined for speeding. The total number of breathalyser positives has not yet been released.

Inspector Siva Coothen, the PPO’s communications officer, said there have been no major incidents. However, he warned traders to beware of counterfeit banknotes that are currently being smuggled out. They ask them to use an ultraviolet detector.
