From 361 positive cases to 309, this is a slight decrease that the official statistics of the Ministry of Health show for the past week, that is from 01 to 08 July. However, the number of deaths directly linked to the virus has doubled, from 2 to 4.
PCR tests have confirmed a total of 309 cases as compared to 361 last week. New ENT Hospital has recorded 35 patients during the week, including 2 patients over 70 years of age with various co-morbidities on ventilator support or only 1 fully vaccinated. 6 are on oxygen and have various co-morbidities, of which 2 are fully vaccinated. The New ENT Hospital reports 27 patients admitted to the General Wards. The Vacoas treatment centre has also reported 4 deaths directly related to Covid 19.
Vaccination continues
Vaccination remains on track with 1,012,054 people having received their first dose and the second dose rate is 978,136. For Booster Dose I, 649,571 people have been inoculated, including 240,202 at Johnson & Johnson, 8,815 at Sinopharm, 2,825 at Astra Zeneca, 269,328 at Pfizer and 108,401 at Moderna. For Booster Dose II, 9,954 people were inoculated, including 9,769 at Pfizer, 176 at Moderna, 8 at Johnson & Johnson and 1 at Sinopharm. For the campaign for adolescents aged 12 to 17, 75,664 received the first dose of Pfizer and 69,494 the second. For the pediatric dose, i.e., pupils aged 5 to 11 years, the Ministry announced a total of 12,578 children inoculated for the first dose and 1,822 for the second.
In Rodrigues, 75.24% of the population received the first dose, 72.20% the second and 15,580 the third.
Call for prudence
Despite the downward trend, vigilance remains necessary. Contamination is still very real, as evidenced by the 309 new cases. Even the Leader of the Opposition, Xavier Luc Duval, has tested positive. The Leader of the Reds, during the Politburo on Friday 08 July, even suggested that the wearing of masks be reinstituted in all closed spaces.
