Must Read

The Adviser and Manager of the Commonwealth Climate Finance Access Hub (CCFAH), Dr Oldman Oduetse Koboto, paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Blue Economy, Marine Resources, Fisheries and Shipping, today, at the seat of the Ministry in Port Louis.

The aim of this visit was to discuss the new role of Dr Koboto as Adviser and Manager of the CCFAH, and the way he could help the Ministry of Blue Economy, Marine Resources, Fisheries and Shipping in securing funding for projects which could contribute to unlock the potential of the blue economy for the Republic of Mauritius.

Sudheer Maudhoo - Oldman Oduetse Koboto

During the meeting, Minister Maudhoo expressed his wish of further developing the blue economy sector as it was the only natural resource that the country had, thus the need to capitalise on it. He also underlined those entrepreneurs should make the most of opportunities and schemes available to them in order to develop the fishing sector.

Other topics discussed were, amongst others: the different means to help artisanal fishers make the most of their catch by showing them how to ensure the quality and freshness of their products, and how to better market them; the possibility of setting up a dedicated fishing port in the south of the island; and improvement of the supply chain in the blue economy sector.

As for Dr Koboto, he informed Minister Maudhoo that he would meet with representatives of the Ministry of Blue Economy, Marine Resources, Fisheries and Shipping so as to look into project proposals that could enable the blue economy sector to further develop.
