Commissioner Dip To Enforce New Restrictions To Combat Covid-19

As from Friday 12 November 2021 at 6:00 hrs, new restrictions have been imposed in the country in a bid to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus. Virtue of the Section 9 of the Police Act 1974, besides preserving public peace and preventing and detecting offences, the Police is also responsible to assist relevant authorities in implementing health and quarantine laws, amongst others.

The Police Force has been mobilised as from 04:00 hrs on 12 November 2021 until further orders with a view to enforcing the new restrictions and also to sensitize members of the public on the preventive sanitary measures. This order lays down the role and responsibilities of DCPs, Divisional Commanders and Brand Officers for the proper management of the pandemic and the necessary prompt actions to be taken to ensure public safety and security.

The police will inter-alia ensure that all measures announced by the authorities are being well observed by the population. All Police Officers of all ranks are fully on alert to the prevailing Covid-19 situation in Mauritius. Therefore, the Commissioner of Police, A. K. Dip, PMSM expect each and every member of the Force to be guided by their sense of patriotism and oath of allegiance. The whole Police Force has the moral and legal obligations to provide a selfless service to the nation by protecting them from being contaminated.

Divisional Commanders and Branch Officers are to ensure that the new restrictions on Covid-19 are being strictly complied with. Along with their Commanders, all DCPs should lead and support the front liners by being physically present next to. Police Officers should at all the time be firm, tactful and courteous in their approach.
