Bullied At School, Teenager Attempts Suicide

Must Read

A 15-year-old girl attending a private institution in the capital has attempted to kill herself because she is being bullied by one of her classmates. Her father discovered her in her room on the afternoon of Wednesday 7 September with a glass containing traces of a white liquid and several tablets next to her. The schoolgirl looked dazed and was rushed to the Dr A.G. Jeetoo Hospital, Port Louis where she was admitted to the intensive care unit.

Her father, a 42-year-old bricklayer, went to the Abercrombie Police Station, St. Croix, on the evening of Wednesday, September 7, to report a case of substance abuse. In his complaint, he explained that his daughter complains of being bullied by one of her classmates. This situation, he said, has been going on for two years. He said he had already filed a complaint to the Ministry of Education.

On Monday 5 September, his daughter refused to go to school, because this schoolgirl continues to intimidate her. On Wednesday, 7 September, she did not go to school, and shut herself up in her room all day. At around 2.30 pm when her father came to see her, she was not well. Lying on her bed, she was dizzy.  Her father found a glass on her bed with a trace of white liquid and several tablets on a bedside table.

He immediately took his daughter to Dr Jeetoo Hospital. After receiving treatment, she was placed in an intensive care unit room for observation.
