This morning in a press conference of Alliance de l’Espoir, the MMM leader wished that the year 2022 be the year of the end of Covid-19, but also the year of early legislative elections and the end of the MSM government. He expressed this wish after stating that the year 2021 has been very bad for the country and especially for the democracy in Mauritius.
Paul Bérenger also spoke about the alleged scandal surrounding the purchase of Molnupiravir. He first stated that Pravind Jugnauth has defended the Minister Kailesh Jagutpal throughout the year. He also stated that he has no confidence in ICAC. “It is a cover-up and a white-washing machine,” he said.
Paul Bérenger also spoke about the call for opposition members to resign ‘en bloc’ which he opposes for three reasons, namely the resignation of the members of the Opposition will not lead to the departure of the government, which what all elected officials want and the absence of the opposition in the hemicycle will then fully benefit the government.
Paul Berenger also talked about how with a three-quarters majority, the government may amend the supreme law of the country.
XLD is satisfied
The opposition leader expressed his satisfaction with the cases of corruption and scandals that have come to light in the past year. He also pleased with the creation of the Plateforme de l’Espoir and shared that he hopes for more cooperation within the Opposition in 2022. He also added that he wished that the general elections are held in 2022.
Bodha: “Impossible that the Prime Minister is not aware”.
Bodha, in a press conference this morning, recalled that the Prime Minister himself said during his speech that one million capsules of Molnupiravir have been purchased. He also recalled that in Parliament, the Minister of Health justified the price and number of drugs purchased. “He insisted that the urgency dictated this decision and that these drugs would save lives,” said Nando Bodha.
He added that the High-Level Committee has met 300 times and that there are minutes. “The Prime Minister cannot come today and say that he does not know anything. He cannot say that he is not responsible for everything that happened. They are trying to put the whole blame on the civil servants. But we want the truth to come out. The main culprits are the politicians,” he said.
Roshi Bhadain : Divert attention with his arrest
Roshi Bhadain said that the government wanted to divert the attention with his arrest. He further stated that he did not understand how could the police give so much credit to the words of a repeat offender. Recalling that he had defended Pravind Jugnauth tooth and nail when the latter was arrested in 2012, Roshi Bhadain said he can never forgive him for making his wife, sister and mother cry. He added that, in spite of them, the government has motivated him to work for the liberation of Mauritius in 2022. He also announced that he will sue ASP Ghoorah for gross misconduct in office.
