A 55-year-old assistant teacher working at the Marcel Gabon Government School in Cité La Cure was assaulted in a grade 3 classroom on Friday, September 30 by a young man. The assistant teacher reported the assault to the Abercrombie Police Station, St. Croix after being taken to the Dr. A.G. Jeetoo Hospital, Port Louis on the afternoon of Saturday, October 01 for treatment. He obtained five days of sick leave starting this Monday, October 03.
It was on the evening of Sunday, October 2nd that this Portlouisian filed a complaint. He explained that on Friday, September 30, he was in a grade 3 class when he was called into the office. There were seven women and one man. The teacher then had to say to this group, “ala missie la là”. This man began to shout and call him names without wanting to hear him. This individual pointed his finger in his direction and said, “sorti deor mo pou kas…”.
The seven women, who were with this man, also began to insult him. They were hostile. Shortly thereafter, he heard a voice, “missie … zot pe rey ou loto”. On the second floor balcony, he could see this young man, who was near his vehicle. A teacher was trying to stop him. The assistant teacher said he took out his cell phone to film the scene, at which point this individual threatened him. He said he locked himself in a classroom with two female teachers in the presence of students. This young man entered the classroom and began to hit him on his left eyebrow.
He tried to dodge her when another man came in and beat him all over his body and even tore his shirt. After they left, he went downstairs to look at his car, which had a deflated wheel and a scratch on the left side. An investigation was initiated for “assaulting an officer of a civil authority”.
