Anomalies – PRB: CITU Wants To Meet PM

Must Read

The Confederation of Independent Grade Union (CITU) is seeking a meeting with the Prime Minister, Pravind Jugnauth, to address the frustration among parastatal employees following the release of the latest Pay Research Bureau (PRB) report. Indeed, she wants an Independent Committee to be set up to correct the anomalies arising from the report.

Meeting the press yesterday at the Marie de la Paix social center, the president of CITU stressed that the basic salary of Rs 10250 decided by the PRB is not enough to make ends meet at the end of the month. According to him, the latter should have received a decent salary when we know that senior civil servants have had salary increases from RS 10 000 to RS 12 000. In addition, the General Workers only got a salary increase of about Rs 2000.

As many as 70% of the CITU affiliates are not satisfied with this report because the ratio between a junior and a senior official is 1:11 and not 1:8 as it is made out to be. For a General Worker to reach his Top Salary, it will take 42 years of service for this to be a reality.

Deepak Benydin also had to say that the civil servants who retired in 2020 are at a disadvantage because the PRB report will be applied only from next January. He asks the government to compensate them on a humanitarian basis.

The CITU president also said that in the future, a demonstration may be held in front of the office of Public Service Minister Vikram Hurdodyal for not providing a hard copy of the report when he met with federation leaders.
