His bail application for release was not granted to the lawyer in the Bail and Remand Court on Sunday 21 August. “The police put forward a material fact to object to his release. Interference with witnesses was raised in court to say that there is an investigation and that the police suspect a drug ring which is being thoroughly investigated. The magistrate raised the fact that there was a risk that he would interfere with witnesses if he had bail. For this, the police must be given time to act,” said magistrate Prashant Bissoon.
The motion of Akil Bissessur’s companion, Sweety Doomila Devi Moheeputh, was withdrawn before the BRC due to the late hour. Thus, the motion for release of Doomila Moheeput by her lawyer Neelkhant Dulloo will be heard on Monday 22 August in the Rose Hill District Court. Akil Bissessur’s case will also be heard in the Rose Hill District Court.
It will be recalled that lawyer Akil Bissessur and his partner were arrested on Friday night after a quantity of synthetic drugs worth Rs 260,000 was seized from Doomila Moheeputh’s house in Palma, Four Horns.
