ACIM Gets Court Order Forcing Police To Accept Its Original Route

Must Read

“This is a great victory for democracy,” said proudly Jayen Chellum in a press conference this afternoon. The spokesperson for ACIM said that, as the organiser of a second rally, he could not accept the new conditions imposed by the police. ACIM and other organisations were planning to hold a rally on Friday. However, the police demanded that the original route be changed.

For Jayen Chellum, these conditions were unacceptable. Especially since the police took more than 48 hours to impose these conditions. He recalled that the police had been officially informed of the rally on 14 August. However, it was only on 23 August that they reacted and imposed certain conditions before giving their approval. “The police violated the Public Gathering Act. Under the Act, if new conditions or changes were imposed, the police had to respond within 48 hours,” said Jayen Chellum.

He explained that ACIM and its lawyers managed to get a hearing with Justice Johan Moutou-Leckning, despite the fact that the Supreme Court is on leave. She issued an order for the police to respect the original route.
