A Septuagenarian Killed By A Car In Chemin Grenier

Louis France Toulouse was picking at his gate in Camp Fanny, Chemin Grenier, on Monday morning, January 22, when he was mowed down by a car. The 70-year-old did not survive his injuries. His body was subsequently taken to the Victoria Hospital morgue in Candos for an autopsy. The autopsy, carried out by Dr Prem Chamane, Principal Police Medical Officer, attributed his death to multiple injuries. This man is the tenth victim of a road accident since the beginning of this year.

The accident occurred at around 10 a.m. on Monday morning, January 22. The victim was digging in front of his door on the side of the road when he was hit head-on by a car. He was seriously injured and pronounced dead shortly afterwards. The driver was given a breathalyzer test. The test was negative. He is due to be brought before the Souillac court this Tuesday morning, January 23, on a provisional charge of manslaughter.

An investigation has been launched at the Chemin Grenier police station to shed light on the exact circumstances of this accident.

In addition, a Form 4 teenager attending a state secondary school in the Pamplemousses area was seriously injured when she was hit by a Ford Ranger 4×4. The impact was so violent that she was thrown against a wall. The accident occurred at around 12.03 p.m. on Sunday, January 21, on the Route Royale in Upper Vale.

Injured, the teenager, who lives in the village of Goodlands, was rushed to the North Hospital. After receiving treatment, she was admitted to the ward. The 53-year-old driver of the 4×4, who lives in Mon Loisir, Rivière du Rempart, was taken to the Plaine des Papayes police station for questioning. He was subsequently given an alcohol test, which proved negative.

The victim was working in a ditch in Morcellement Dhunputh, Belle Vue, Chemin Grenier when she was run over by a car driven by a 21-year-old student from Morcellement Dhunputh.
