Maria Duval-Nobin, 38, met a tragic end on Friday December 22. She was riding an electric bicycle on a road in L’Amaury when it collided with a cab car and ended up against an electricity pylon. She was killed instantly. She is the 33rd road accident victim so far this year.
The accident occurred on a road in the village of L’Amaury, Rivière du Rempart, at around 11.45 am on Friday December 22. According to a police source, the cab and the electric bicycle were travelling in the same direction. The driver of the e-bike was overtaking vehicles during this maneuver, colliding with the cab before losing control of her two-wheeled machine. She subsequently crashed into an electricity pylon.
The impact of the collision was so brutal that the thirty-something woman was killed instantly. Her body was then taken to the morgue of the Dr. A.G. Jeetoo Hospital in Port-Louis for an autopsy, which was carried out by Dr. Sudesh Kumar Gungadin, head of the police forensic department, who attributed her death to multiple injuries.
In the late afternoon of Thursday December 21, a motorcyclist lost his life after colliding head-on with a parked car. The motorcyclist was on the Pailles freeway heading towards the town center.
