First cyclone bulletin for Rodrigues issued at 0410 hours this Thursday 17 February 2022.
The tropical depression that was evolving northeast of Rodrigues intensified into a Moderate Tropical Storm and was named EMNATI early this morning by the Mauritius Meteorological Service.
At 0400 hours, Moderate Tropical Storm Emnati was centered about 760 km northeast of Rodrigues, at latitude 14.0 degrees south and longitude 67.2 degrees east. It is moving in a general westerly direction at about 20 km/h.
Emnati is now evolving in an area where it could intensify further. The presence of Emnati in the north of Rodrigues will cause strong winds, heavy showers and heavy seas in Rodrigues from this evening. Thus Emnati represents a potential threat for the island.
The public in Rodrigues is advised to take preliminary precautions.
External cloud bands associated with the moderate tropical storm will cross the island from this evening. The weather will be partly cloudy this morning with some light showers. The weather will gradually become cloudy to overcast in the evening with intermittent rain. The rain will be moderate at times with thunderstorms.
The wind will be from the southeast at around 45 km/h, gradually increasing this evening with gusts to 90-100 km/h in exposed places.
The sea will be rough and choppy becoming very rough tomorrow. Sea trips are not recommended.
