Must Read

Sanydeo Soomer, 35, was taken into custody on Friday. He was arrested by the Icac after a search of his home where various documents were found, including property titles in his name. Two vehicles were also seized. Sanydeo Soomer is suspected of being another frontman for Jean Hubert Celerine, alias Franklin. Rikesh Sumboo, another alleged frontman, was also arrested. It should be remembered that Sanydeo Soomer leads a dream life. In addition, he was often in the company of Franklin at social events. He appeared on Monday before the court of Black River where a provisional charge of money laundering was lodged against him.

Meanwhile, the Labour Party has sent a letter to the French Embassy in Mauritius. They are asking for some clarification in the case of Jean Hubert Celerine, alias Franklin. This follows the press conference of the Attorney General, Maneesh Gobin, on Wednesday 8 February. In this letter, the president of the Reds, Patrick Assirvaden, states that “the Minister gives the impression that he is hiding behind the Reunion island in order not to answer the press and the Mauritian population”.

Patrick Assirvaden also claims to have sought the help of a French MP to obtain answers from the French Minister of Justice in Parliament on this issue. It should be noted that on 2 July 2021, the criminal court of Saint-Denis, Reunion Island, sentenced Jean Hubert Celerine, alias Franklin, to seven years in prison for his involvement in trafficking cannabis to Mauritius.

Jean Hubert Celerine, alias Franklin, was arrested by Icac officers on Tuesday 7 February on suspicion of money laundering in connection with a Rs 25 million drug deal.

The 33-year-old resident of Black River was then brought before the Bambous court on a provisional charge of money laundering. He is due to appear in court on 14 February and will be back in court for his parole motion on 20 February.
