This resident of The Vale was admitted since January 07, 2023 after suffering severe burns. This octogenarian was praying in her yard when her nylon skirt accidentally caught fire with a lamp. An autopsy performed by Dr. Prem Chamane, Principal Police Medical Officer, on Thursday February 16, attributed her death to sepsis as a result of her burns.

Sylvie Gengadu was pronounced dead at around 5:40 p.m. on Wednesday, February 15, in the intensive care unit of the Burns’ Unit of Candos Hospital. This resident of The Vale had been admitted there since Saturday, January 07, 2023. On the same day, around 7 o’clock in the morning, she was in her yard to do her prayer when her nylon skirt suddenly caught fire with a lamp.

The octogenarian had to spill a bucket of water on her to extinguish the flames. Her son, 47 years old and living on the second floor of the same house, ran to her rescue. He immediately took his mother to the North Hospital for treatment. Sylvie Gengadu was later transferred to Candos Hospital.
