8 School Establishments Closed This Monday

Must Read

5 Colleges, 2 primary schools and a pre-primary school closed temporarily on Monday, July 12, due to Covid cases. Several cases have been detected in these 7 establishments. Currently in the process of disinfection, they will be reopened within two days except for the nursery school which preferred to extend this forced leave to three weeks. Is the situation not alarming enough? Students and teaching staff are contaminated; some parents have already made up their minds.

Secondary- pupils and staff concerned

At the Hindu Girls in Curepipe, a grade 11 student has been tested positive. In LCQB, a student in Grade 7, and at the LCPL, it is a teacher! At the SSS of Goodlands Boys, a Grade 11 student residing Petit Raffray contracted the virus and ditto, at the SSS Mootoocoomaren Sangeelee in Riambel, a student living in the region tested positive. Regarding the Mauritius College, the positive tests are on an executive staff of the school as well as students from the two departments, Boys and Girls.

Resistance of parents

The D.Basant Rai Goverment School in La Rosa Grand Port also remained closed for cases detected on staff. The case is special for Camp Diable Government School; the school is empty after the cases detected last Friday. The Parents are the ones who resist to the resumption by no longer sending their children to the primary school. Concerning the pre-primary school “Belle Etoile” located in Roche Terre, it will remain closed for three weeks since the staff has been put in isolation.

The temporary closing and especially the resistance of the parents send a strong message, their decision is taken! The Ministry of Education has not yet provided any official statement on the way forward. Except that the school is not the place of contamination, they have come already contaminated in the premises. The final decision of the total closure of all schools will be made in case of excessive multiplication of cases and after examinations where students and staff have been contaminated.

Disinfected schools reopened

The four SSS schools disinfected last Friday reopened their doors on Monday. It concerns the SSS Saint Aubin, GMD Atchia in Port-Louis, Simadaree Virahsawmy SSS in Rivière du Rempart and Sir Leckraz Teelock SSS in Flacq.
