18-Year-Old Student Dies In A Road Accident

Bhavish Untoo, an 18-year-old student also known as Ti-Buzi who was seriously injured in a motorbike accident on the evening of Saturday 8 July, has not survived his injuries.  The motorbike on which the Fond du Sac resident was riding, driven by his cousin Manesh Untoo, 24, was involved in a collision with another two-wheeler.  Bhavish Untoo breathed his last on the morning of Monday 17 July in the ward of the Hôpital du Nord. An autopsy performed on his body attributed his cause of death to a pulmonary embolism.  Guilane Bomtemps, another young man aged 22, lost his life on Saturday 15 July when his motorbike collided with a JCB on the Rivière Noire road in Mon Repos, Bambous. The victim, who lived in the NHDC flats in Bambous, was killed instantly.

At around 9pm on Saturday 8 July, police officers from the Terre Rouge police station attended an accident involving two motorbikes on the Route Royale in Saint Joseph, Terre Rouge. The grey Suzuki, driven by a 72-year-old man from Baie du Tombeau, collided with a black Mondial.  The driver was Manesh Untoo. His brother Bhavish Untoo was riding as a passenger. The two injured cousins were evacuated to the North Hospital in an ambulance belonging to the Emergency Medical Service. The septuagenarian was taken to the same hospital in a police vehicle. The two brothers were admitted to the ward after receiving treatment.

In the early hours of Sunday 9 July, around midnight, Bhavish Untoo was transferred to a ward in the intensive care unit. On Wednesday 12 July he was transferred back to the ward. The septuagenarian, who had been transferred to the Dr A. G. Jeetoo Hospital, Port-Louis, was able to leave this medical institution on Thursday 13 Thursday.

Dr Sunnassee, a general practitioner, pronounced Bhavish Untoo dead at 8.35am on Monday 17 July. On the same day, an autopsy was performed on his body by Dr Prem Chamane, Principal Police Medical Officer at the mortuary of the Dr Jeetoo Hospital. He attributed the cause of death to a pulmonary embolism.

Bhavish Untoo’s funeral took place on Tuesday 18 July at 9.30am. His cremation took place at Fond du Sac.

The septuagenarian will be brought before the Pamplemousses court this Wednesday morning (19 July) on a provisional charge of manslaughter.
