World Clean-Up Day: Discovering Be.Eau

Must Read

The company BeEau Ltd presented its compostable and biodegradable bottles and flasks produced and sold locally, in its factory in Riche-Terre on September 16th. The bottles ” bottles by be.eau ” are made exclusively from vegetable waste such as sugar cane bagasse and avocado pits among others. The company will soon launch “compost by be.eau” where the bottles will be collected in different points of the island and sent to composting thanks to the different collaborators in this field. Rahul Ramburn and Zeid Ramtoola, co-founders of BeEau Ltd, show us their factory, where this beautiful ecological adventure started.

As soon as we enter the factory, we discover bottles and flasks of different shapes and sizes ready for delivery. We also discover the innovative technology behind the manufacturing of these bottles and flasks. We understand that the sugar cane bagasse is transformed into granules to manufacture the bottles. This innovative technology has won several international awards such as the “Best Plant-Based Packaging” in the United States in 2020.

In October 2020, BeEau Ltd created its water brand “water by be.eau” bottled in its biodegradable and compostable bottles. The bottles have a capacity of 700 ml. They are sold in supermarkets and in many restaurants. Today BeEau Ltd also produces “bottles by be.eau” in several units for Beachcomber Resorts & Hotels and Le Domaine de Labourdonnais among others, with the mutual objective of protecting the environment.

These bottles and flasks made from sugar cane bagasse are an alternative to bottles made from toxic petrochemicals that pollute both man and the planet. Thus, the bottles and flasks are made only with biodegradable and compostable materials, without a drop of oil. This is an ecological initiative launched by the company, BeEau Ltd, with the aim of fighting against the pollution of petrochemical plastics and creating a non-toxic container.

The “bottles by be.eau” generates at least 50% less CO2 during its manufacture than petrochemical plastic and its carbon footprint is about 80% less than that of traditional plastic. While an ordinary plastic bottle takes more than 400 years to decompose, bottles by be.eau are 100% compostable. Moreover, the compost from these bottles is perfect for agriculture and is not harmful to the environment or to humans. BeEau Ltd aims to use the compost from “compost by be.eau” for the protection of Mauritian endemic plants.

For their part, Rahul Ramburn and Zeid Ramtoola believe that each individual has an important role to play in protecting the environment: “We believe that everyone has the power to have a positive impact on our environment through simple but meaningful actions. That’s why everything we do is designed exclusively with natural renewable materials, which we make available to everyone.

“There are several composting initiatives that are developing around the island. This in itself is a great initiative for the eco-evolution of our country. These collaborations will allow us to recover food waste from landfills and promote organic farming”.

The ecological adventure continues for these two ambitious and nature lovers with several projects in the same optics, and that will do that good to our island.

In addition, BeEau Ltd has partnered with various organizations in clean up initiatives across the island for the World Clean Up Day 2021.
