Must Read

Tuesday March 22 was marked by the two cases of murder of Swaleha Khoyratty and Fadillah Bee Futtingah, also known as Preeti. Both women were killed by strangulation by their spouses. Swaleha Khoyratty was killed on her 50th birthday. The body of Fadillah Bee Futtingah born Fuzurally, 31 years old, was in a state of decomposition.

These two tragedies took place respectively on the fourth floor of a building on Rue Remy Ollier, Port-Louis and in a cane field in Poste de Flacq. The autopsy attributed the cause of death of these two women to asphyxiation.

Abdool Feizal Mohabuth, the husband of Swaleha Khoyratty, attempted suicide shortly after his death. He was admitted to the hospital. As for Jiten Futtingah, 29 years old and the husband of Fadillah Bee Futtingah, was placed under arrest.

At around 5:45 pm on Tuesday, March 22, a team of police officers from the Trou-Fanfaron police station went to the fourth floor of a building on Remy Ollier Street, Port-Louis after a man came to the police station in Plaine-Verte and told police officers that he had killed his wife. The 53-year-old Phoenix resident, Abdool Feizal Mohabuth, employed by the United Bus Service Ltd as a Traffic Controller, told police that he ingested poison after his killing spree. This tragedy would have taken place around 4 pm on Tuesday March 22. The victim had to celebrate his birthday with his daughter that day but an argument with the suspect degenerated. In a fit of anger, the suspect strangled him.

The 50-year-old was immediately taken to the Dr. A.G. Jeetoo Hospital, Port-Louis for a stomach pump before being admitted to the ward. He was placed under police surveillance.

The police officers went to the building in question at Rue Remy Ollier where the door was not locked. The officers then discovered Swaleha Khoyratty, who was lying on her back in her kitchen, unresponsive. Dr. Auleer of the Emergency Medical Service (EMS) could only pronounce her dead. The autopsy by Dr. Sudesh Kumar Gungadin, the head of the forensic department of the police on Wednesday morning, March 23, at the morgue of Victoria Hospital, Candos, attributed the cause of death of Swaleha Khoyratty to asphyxia due to compression of the neck.

Swaleha Khoyratty had been religiously married to Abdool Feizal Mohabuth in 2018 after the latter’s wife died due to illness. Mother of two children, including a daughter, she was separated from her husband. After his marriage, she had then taken up residence in Phoenix but the couple beaten the wing. Thus, Swaleha Khoyratty left the marital roof regularly. Last year, she moved into this building on Remy Ollier Street that her daughter had rented for her. However, she and her husband continue to see each other.

Abdool Feizal Mohanuth passed away around 2 pm on Wednesday, March 23. Autopsy of the corpse performed at the morgue of Dr. Jeetoo Hospital around 6 pm on the same day by Dr. Prem Chamane, Principal Police Medical Officer attributed the death to acute cerebral and pulmonary edema.

As for the second crime, a team of police officers from the regular force went to a cane field in Allée Mangues, Poste de Flacq following a request from the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of Flacq after the macabre discovery made around 3 pm. Indeed, the body of a woman, in a state of decomposition, was discovered in the tenth row at a distance of two hundred meters from the road. She was later identified as Fadillah Bee Futtingah, a resident of Camp Poorun, Flacq Post. The woman was the mother of three sons aged 5, 6 and 14 respectively.

The CID investigation led to the arrest of 5 suspects, including Jiten Futtingah, the husband of the victim. After questioning, Jiten Futtingah and Roopsingh Heeralall, 36, a garbage collector in a cleaning company and resident of Poste de Flacq, were arrested. Jiten Futtingah confessed that he killed his wife with the complicity of Roopsingh Heeralall.  Jiten Futtingah was released from prison two weeks ago where he had served a two-year sentence for a sexual relationship with a minor. He did not like the fact that his wife, who is a drug addict, sold her body to get her daily doses. During the day of Sunday, March 20, he planned to finish her off and offered to accompany him when his wife went to get drugs. With his friend Roopsingh HeeralaIl, he asked his wife to take a shortcut. On this path, he shoved his wife, who stumbled and fell to the ground.  His friend held his wife’s feet while he strangled her.
