The Lord Mayor Complains To The Police

Must Read

A person allegedly used the name of the Lord Mayor of Port Louis, Cader Saib Mahfooz Moussa, to demand a sum of Rs 5,000 from a citizen for a building and land use permit. The person went to the Council Chamber on Thursday afternoon, September 8, to inform the Lord Mayor of the matter. The Lord Mayor in turn went to Pope Hennessy Police Station, Port Louis for a ‘precautionary measure’ to this effect.

Mahfooz Moussa said that at around 12 noon on Thursday, September 8, a person came to meet him at the municipal council to inform him that a resident of Camp Chapelon, Pailles, had allegedly claimed the sum of Rs 5,000 on behalf of the Lord Mayor for obtaining his building and land use permit. The person was asked to go to the police to make a proper statement to the police. The Lord Mayor pointed out that this person showed him a picture of this individual on his mobile phone.

Mahfooz Moussa told the police that he does not know this individual. He was keen to point out that he did not give instructions to collect money on his behalf for anything.
