Must Read

The thesis of foul-play was retained until this morning of Monday, February 13 concerning the death Salonee Moholu. Born Gopee aged 69 years in Rosano, La Caverne, Vacoas. However the autopsy performed at the morgue of the Victoria Hospital, Candos attributed her death to renal failure. The 60-year-old died of natural causes. Her son Viyneul Moholu, 48 years old who lived with her who was arrested, was not released. He was brought before the Curepipe court on a provisional charge of culpable omission. His mother fell three times at her home during the day on Sunday, February 12. It was not until around 8:00 pm that he called for an ambulance.

Shortly before 11:30 p.m. on the evening of February 12, a team of police officers led by Sergeant Ojarah went to the home of the 60-year-old. This after learning of her death.  Her son Viyneul Moholu explained that the staff of the Emergency Medical Service visited his mother after she fell down the stairs. Unfortunately, the doctor found that she had already passed away.

Elements of the Mauritius Fire and Rescue Service were still on site. The body of the nude 60-year-old was on her bed in her room on the second floor. She had wounds on the back of her head and bruises on her arms and legs. There were traces of blood on the bed, the pillows and on the wall.

Forensic technicians were called to the scene to collect evidence and take prints that could help move this investigation forward. The police photographer and draftsman were also on the scene of the “crime” to take pictures and measurements.  After this house was thoroughly examined by the men of the Assistant Superintendent of Police, Sailesh Kumar Omrawoo, in charge of the Criminal Investigation Division of the Central Division, the body of this 60-year-old woman was taken to the morgue.

The autopsy done by Dr. Prem Chamane, Principal Police Medical Officer on Monday, February 13, attributed the death of Salonee Moholu to a kidney infection of natural cause. However, the Vacoas CID has filed a charge of capable omission against her son. This is because his mother fell three times during the day of Sunday, February 12, at 9 am, 1 pm and 3 pm on the stairs and he did not assist her to be taken to the hospital.

At about 8 p.m. after his mother fell down the stairs, he took her back to her room. He explained that she took off her clothes, which were dirty, but he could not get her dressed.  After his appearance at the court of Curepipe, Viyneul Moholu was kept in a police cell.
