Paris Marathon: National Record For Katie Mauthoor

With a time of 2h46’40”, Katie Mauthoor broke the national record for the marathon (42,195km) last Sunday during the Paris Marathon. The former record which was held by the late Maryse Justin in 2h48”40” dated from April 10, 1988 and was achieved in Canberra, Australia.

The Mauritian who lives and trains in France has improved her best time by more than seven minutes. In October 2021 during the marathon of Rennes she was credited with a time of 2h53’36”.

Katie Mauthoor showed perfect consistency throughout the race in Paris with an average pace of 15.2 km/h over each five kilometers or 3:56 per kilometer. His time at the halfway point, i.e. at the 21st kilometer, was 1h23’05”.  Between the twentieth and the twenty-fifth kilometers she accelerated to reach an average speed of 16.14km/h.

This acceleration caused her average pace to drop below 15km/h over the next ten kilometers. However, she was able to pick up the pace in the last seven kilometers and break the national record.

“This national record has not yet been ratified, but it will be at the WADA managing committee on Thursday, April 7, 2022,” according to the WADA president.

The Kenyan Judit Jeptum was exhausted at the finish.

The Kenyan Judit Jeptum won the women’s race in 2h19’49” and broke the record for the event by more than a minute. The previous best time was held by the Kenyan Purity Rionoripo’s in 2h20′.55”.

In the men’s category, it was the Ethiopian Deso Gelmisa who was the fastest in 2h05’07”.
