Nurse Killed On Motorbike In Beau-Bassin

Rakesh Baboolol, a 43 year old nurse at the Brown Sequard Psychiatric Hospital in Beau-Bassin met a tragic end in a road accident late Wednesday afternoon. The Delta motorbike he was riding was hit head-on by a truck on Route Royale in Beau-Bassin. The victim, who lived on Belvedere Street, Beau-Bassin, was killed instantly.

It was shortly after 3.30pm on Wednesday 27 October that a team of police officers from the Beau-Bassin Police Station attended an accident on Route Royale in Beau-Bassin. The accident occurred exactly at the junction of Rosnay Street and Route Royale, Beau-Bassin. The motorbike driven by Rakesh Baboolol was hit head-on by a lorry emerging from Rosnay Street as he was travelling towards Coromandel on the Route Royale.

The motorcyclist was seriously injured. An ambulance from the Emergency Medical Service was called to the scene. Unfortunately, Dr Aleear had to certify the death of the 40-year-old. Officer attributed the death to multiple injuries

The 52-year-old driver of the truck, a resident of Albion, was taken to the Beau-Bassin Police Station for questioning. He was also subjected to a breathalyser test which was negative. After spending a night in a police cell at Stanley Police Station, he was brought before the Rose Hill Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 28 October on a provisional charge of manslaughter. The driver was subsequently released on bail.
