On Sunday 17 September 2023, the Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity marked the occasion by bestowing several gifts on the new Centenarian, namely a cheque of Rs 26,203; a mixer grinder; a bouquet of flower; the Centenarian medal; and a Certificate for her service. She was also offered a cheque of Rs 10,000 by the National Solidarity Fund of the Ministry while the Senior Citizen Council presented her with gifts.
Several personalities attended the birthday celebration of Mrs Parsooramen, including the Minister of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity, Mrs Fazila Jeewa-Daureeawoo and the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Protection, Dr Marie Christiane Dorine Chukowry.
Mrs Parsooramen attributes her longevity to her strong faith in God, attending mass and regular prayers.
Born in Beau Bassin to a family of eight children, Mrs Parsooramen and her sister, aged 95, are the only survivors among the siblings. She studied up to standard six and worked as a seamstress until the age of 70 years old.
From her marriage to Mr Henri Marcel Parsooramen, she had six children, four sons and two daughters. She currently has 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great grandchildren.
