Must Read

Steven James Leung Wan Sung, a 30-year-old resident of Rouillard Lane, Baie-du-Tombeau, was seriously injured in a road accident late Thursday afternoon, April 14, on Nicolay Road, St. Croix near the Latanier Bridge. His Honda Unicorn motorbike was involved in a collision with a grey Toyota Corolla. This accident provoked the anger of a hostile crowd, which gathered at this location. One of the people present smashed the car’s windscreen. The condition of Steven Leung Wan Sung, who is admitted to the Dr A.G. Jeetoo Hospital in Port Louis, is considered critical.

The accident occurred at around 4pm on a curve on Nicolay Road, St Croix, not far from the Latanier Bridge. The two vehicles were travelling in the direction of Port Louis. A team of police officers from Abercrombie, St. Croix, led by Sergeant Dookee, went to the scene as soon as they received the request. Steven Leung Wan Sung was seriously injured and was evacuated to Dr Jeetoo Hospital. However, the driver of the car, a 71-year-old Beaubassin resident, was not present at the scene where a hostile crowd gathered. In addition, an individual wearing a blue shirt began to smash the car’s windscreen and rear windows with an iron bar.

The man was arrested by the police and had to shout “mo…, mo sinye mwa dan Baie-du-Tombeau” before fleeing. The parapet on the left side of this road was partially damaged.

Abercrombie Police have launched an investigation to determine who was at fault in this accident.
