A delegation headed by the Electoral Commissioner, Irfan Raman will visit Rodrigues this Sunday to prepare the first stage of the regional elections in the island, including the registration of political parties, which will take place on January 10 and 11 at the office of the Electoral Commissioner in Port-Mathurin from 9 am to 3 pm.
The registration of political parties will take place on January 10 and 11. Then, the ‘nomination day’ will be Saturday, January 22 and the big voting day for Rodriguans will be February 13. More than 35 000 voters are concerned in the 6 regions of the island. For the first time, the counting of votes will be done on the day of the election. Voting hours have been set from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., without any interruption, instead of 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
For his part, the electoral commissioner in Mauritius, Irfan Raman said that the electoral office is working hard to ensure that all work is done properly. He assured that all the necessary logistics will be put in place in relation to the pandemic.
He also explained that since the results will be announced the same day after the polls, the classrooms will be converted into counting rooms. 500 officers will be mobilized for the polls.
Irfan Raman said he was counting on the cooperation of the candidates and political parties to ensure that everything takes place in the best conditions.
