Must Read

Thursday, July 14, 2022, the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron granted an interview to TF1 and France 2. On this occasion, he was asked about the war in Ukraine, his reforms and Uber files. Emmanuel Macron also spoke about the main priorities of the beginning of this five-year term: the mechanisms devised to deal with the rise in energy prices, pension reform, reform of the labor law.

The President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron returned to the beginning of his second term and talked about the war in Ukraine, energy, unemployment insurance and the Uber files, revealed earlier in the week. With the war in Ukraine, the president assured that the military budget will continue to increase until 2030. “We have a strong military. We have the first army in Europe, a responsive army and we showed it at the beginning of this war,” said Emmanuel Macron, who stressed that France held, in addition, the nuclear deterrent.

The head of state reiterated that France was not a party to the war in Ukraine, although it has consequences on the lives of French people. Indeed, with the economic sanctions, energy prices have increased in France. The president accused Russia of using energy as a weapon of war. “We must prepare for a scenario where we have to do without Russian gas altogether,” assured Emmanuel Macron, who announced an “energy sobriety plan” for this summer. A law on labor reform will also be presented during the summer, while the president reaffirmed his plan to change the retirement age.

Regarding energy, the president said that the European electricity market will be reformed in order to negotiate a change in the price of electricity. “We need a European market. Today, France buys its electricity from its neighbors,” he explained.

The head of state welcomes the opening of the market to Uber. “I do not have a temperament to be under influence,” he assured. The former Minister of the Economy defended his action at the time: “we had transportation needs (…) We opened thousands of jobs.
