Instagram Resolves Bug That Led Suspension Of Many Accounts

Must Read

Instagram witnessed outage among iPhone users on Monday morning, though the problem has been now resolved. The social media platform announced the correction to the bug on its Twitter handle.

At the time of the outage, Instagram had isolated its users by telling a lot of them that “we suspended your account on October 31, 2022”. The affected users complained that the app was crashing and they were unable to use it ahead of an update.

According to a report by DownDetecto, which monitors such technical issues, 73 percent of the reports were about issues related to login, while 14 percent of the reports pointed to the social network not loading and 12 percent were regarding in-app failures.

The social media platform witnessed a crash just a week after the most widely used instant messaging app WhatsApp suffered a global crash.

Instagram users lost followers

With the servers down, many users reported their accounts were suspended. Other users complained of losing a large number of their followers.

Portuguese national player Cristiano Ronaldo lost 3 million followers on the platform, around 10:15 AM ET, from 493 million followers. Though the number of followers was back to 493 million the next day. Instagram’s profile also lost a million of its followers.

When do Instagram accounts suspend?

An account is suspended when its content violates the rules of the social media platform. To retrieve the account, one is given 30 days to appeal the decision. During the time of suspension, the user having a questionable account, can’t access social media nor can they see the newly uploaded content from that account.

Being a system failure, Instagram will recover the accounts using an alternative method, without waiting for any appeal from the suspended accounts.

Instagram issues apology

Meanwhile, Instagram has accepted its technical lag and shared a message on Twitter, “We’re aware that some of you are having issues accessing your Instagram account. We’re looking into it and apologize for the inconvenience.”

Instagram first acknowledged the issue at 10:14 am ET but confirmed that the issue has been resolved only at 6 pm ET, that is it took them many hours to confirm the issue. Instagram head Adam Mosseri also apologized for the issue.

Such issues often excite social network platforms and their users to create memes on these. Twitter quickly turned a memer for the issue. Some of these memes are similar to the ones shared on WhatsApp’s system failure.
