Indo-Mauritius Urology Conclave 2022 Inaugurated By President Roopun

The second edition of the Indo-Mauritius Urology Conclave, being organised at the initiative of the Urological Society of India, from 11 to 16 August 2022, was inaugurated, last Thursday afternoon, at the Intercontinental Resort, Balaclava, in the presence of the President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Prithvirajsing Roopun.

The Conference regrouped some 200 Indian and Mauritian Urologists to discuss on current issues such as oncology, endourology, infertility and kidney transplant. Renowned personalities in the field of urology were presented a shield on the occasion for their immense contribution to the growth of urology and kidney transplant internationally.

The Minister of Gender Equality and Family Welfare, Mrs Kalpana Koonjoo-Shah, the Senior Consultant in minimally invasive urology and kidney transplant, Dr Balbir Verma, and other personalities were present.

In his address, President Roopun said that the event formed part of activities to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of India’s independence: ‘Azaadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.’ He underlined that the Conclave aimed at providing a common platform for high-end professionals to share their knowledge, experience, and to mutually enrich and enhance the urological services, including kidney transplant, to benefit the Mauritian community at large. “In addition, it is also expected to further strengthen the existing brotherhood between India and Mauritius,” he indicated.

For his part, Dr Verma said: “We are confident that the Conclave will enable all of us in Mauritius to serve the Mauritian people with more advanced and modern urological services”.

He added that medicine, including urology, was an ever-evolving science, and he therefore stressed the need for all medical professionals to keep up with recent advancements. “The Conclave will broaden their knowledge regarding the latest scientific developments in the field of urology and kidney transplant,” he underscored.
