In Stanley: Contractor Found Dead With Hands Tied

A gruesome discovery was made this Saturday morning, May 28, in Barbier lane, Stanley, Rose-Hill. Reddy Mooneesawmy, 33, was found dead in a bedroom of a two-story house under construction with his hands bound behind his back. The victim was a contractor by trade. He was a French national and had returned to Mauritius three years ago. His father Permal Mooneesawmy has been missing for five months.

It was following a request made at 10:30 am on Saturday morning, May 28, that a team of police officers from the Stanley police station went to the place. It is a mason who was working there who made the macabre discovery before alerting the police.

Immediately the police machinery was set in motion. Police technicians were sent to the site to collect evidence. The place was already secured before men from the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of the Western Division arrived. Reddy Mooneesawmy who was wearing only an underwear was on his knees and his head wrapped in a sheet was bent over his bed.

The body was taken to the Victoria Hospital morgue in Candos for an autopsy. This was after Dr. Sudesh Kumar Gungadin, head of the forensic department of the police conducted an initial examination of the body at the scene. According to the first information of the investigators, the victim would have been killed in the evening of Friday, May 27.
