Fuel Price: Request For 6 Months Tax Suspension

Must Read

The increase in fuel prices has had its first demonstration in 2022. On Tuesday 04 January, activist Raouf Khodabaccus held a peaceful demonstration at Vallée Pitot shouting “this is a new burden put by the government on the back of the tired and angry population“.

As of 29 December, the price of petrol rose from Rs 50.70 to Rs 55.75 per liter and diesel from Rs 37.30 to Rs 41. A rate calculated at around 10%, which is considered excessive by most economic and citizen observers. Raouf Khodabaccus, supported by his team carrying various placards, demanded “that all fuel taxes be suspended until at least June until the overall situation caused by the pandemic is rectified.”

In his appeal, he also asked the government to “reduce the salaries of parliamentarians and ex-parliamentarians by 50%“. He further announced that there will be other demonstrations in the future.
