The price of Kolos cement pouch will increase by 6% from Wednesday, September 1. The price of a bag of cement will be hit by an increase of Rs 7.40 (excluding VAT)
The management of Kolos Cement Ltd attributes this increase to the rise in the cost of freight, which has increased by $15 per tonne of cement. Despite this increase, Kolos says it has cushioned the increase to apply an increase of only 6% on the cement pouch. With this increase, the price of a 25 kg bag is expected to rise from Rs 141 to Rs 150 in hardware stores.
The Association des Consommateurs de l’île Maurice (ACIM) learned of this increase after a meeting with the management of Kolos.
For this consumer association, this increase will lead to an increase in the cost of building a house. In a letter addressed to the Ministry of Commence, it recalls that the price of building materials has already risen and that it is therefore urgent for the government to come up with a price control policy to safeguard the interests of consumers.
