It was on the evening of Sunday June 11 that this teenager attending a state secondary school gave a statement at the Terre-Rouge police station recounting the assault she had suffered at the hands of her father. Her paternal grandmother also confirmed this version in a statement on the same day.
The teenager explained that she was asleep in her bedroom at around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday June 11 when her father burst in. He began blaming her for the disappearance of various items belonging to her stepmother. Her father grabbed her by her blouse before tugging forcefully at it, which was torn. He began slapping her with his right hand.
He ripped out his cell phone and hit him with it. Mad with rage, her father began strangling her before shoving her onto the bed. Her grandmother, who had waited for her screams, rushed to her aid. The 70-year-old woman intervened, and the teenager took advantage of the situation to flee and file a complaint at the Terre-Rouge police station.
She was joined by her grandmother, who also gave a statement in support of her granddaughter’s version. Shortly afterwards, her son was arrested by a team of police officers from the Terre-Rouge police station. He was placed in a cell at the Rivière du Rempart police station on a charge of domestic violence.
