The judicial enquiry into the death of jockey Nooresh Juglall continued yesterday before Magistrate Shavina Jugnauth. Dr Oozeerkhan was cross-examined by Mauritius Turf Club Sports and Leisure lawyer Yahia Nazroo. Last time, Mr Nataraj Muneesamy, representing the office of the DPP, accused him of lying. The magistrate then asked the police to investigate into the statements the general practitioner made in court.
During his cross-examination by Mr Nazroo, Dr Oozeerkhan said that after he attended Nooresh Juglall, Dr Nunraj Dhawal and a nurse had accompanied the jockey in the ambulance which took him to City Clinic. Dr Oozeerkhan, for his part, remained at the Champ de Mars to attend to jockey Benedict Woodworth who also fell from horse.
Afterwards, Dr Oozeerkhan went to the MTCSL infirmary where he wrote a report which he submitted to the Chief Stipe. Magistrate Shavina Jugnauth then decided to add Benoit Halbwachs, secretary of the MTC, to the list of witnesses to get more details on this report.
The next hearing has been set for Monday 27 September. Dr Nunraj Dhawal will be called to testify.
