Eventually 99.9% cases are asymptomatic, as announced by Minister Kailesh Jagutpal. As of Thursday 29 July, the count is of 94 active cases without symptoms and one positive patient has been admitted to ENT Hospital. Nevertheless, what has caught the attention of the whole country is the case of a 4-year-old child.
Positive at 4 years old
Aged 4 years, the child attends the kindergarten of Le Nid in Triolet. He lives in the Piton area and came to class until 21 July. Following the positive test of this student, 2 teachers and 21 students are currently in isolation. The school is asking all the parents of the pupils in this kindergarten as well as the staff to do a PCR test. It was found that the driver of the ‘school van’ has been tested positive. The implementation of a contact tracing exercise is underway.
Two colleges undergoing disinfection
The Loretto Convent in Port-Louis will reopen on Monday 2 August following a positive case among the teachers. The same goes for the Muslims Girls College, which is located in the vicinity of Loretto in Port Louis, where a Grade 11 student has been tested positive. Both schools are currently being disinfected.

An employee of the administration has tested positive. Around twenty employees were tested on the premises. This employee was sent to quarantine and was present in the office every day until last Monday, 26 July.
The central prison closed
The “New Wing” of the Beau Bassin Central Prison has two confirmed cases among its prisoners. They have been sent for isolation with symptoms being noticed and will be closely monitored by the prison’s medical team. During a screening exercise on Thursday, there have been reservations about twenty cases and the prison has suspended operations until further notice. A contact tracing exercise has been set up.

The Minister of Tourism and VPM, Steeven Obeegadoo, boasted that the country is “on the same level with the European Union in terms of the number of people who have received a first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine“. 7/10 is the figure given for the first dose, and 5/10 for fully inoculated. He made this announcement on Wednesday 28 July, during a function to hand over cheques for financial aid from the State to build the slab. This aid, active since 2019, represents a sum of Rs 133 million to 1,765 families
