Covid 19: 40 Cases And 5 Admissions

Must Read

Today’s figures remain down. The Ministry of Health reports 40 new cases at the beginning of the week. The various vaccination campaigns are progressing. Pfizer BioNTech Laboratories is conducting trials for a new Multi-Variant vaccine that will last one year.

On the decline

Although there is much controversy about the rate of positive cases in Mauritius, which keeps the health restrictions in place, the trend is downwards. The country has recorded 40 positive cases today and 5 admissions, of which 3 were quite serious, to the New ENT Hospital.

Vaccination progress is 1,006,921 for the first dose, 972,564 for the second dose and 616,465 for the first booster dose.  Figures for the second booster dose are not available. This campaign remains slow to start with 638 vaccinated as of last Friday 15.

A one year multi-variant Pfizer for 1 year

Vaccination remains of paramount importance in the fight against Covid 19. Pfizer BioNTech Laboratories announced at the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Associations (Ifpma) press conference on 13 April that a messenger RNA vaccine that will last at least one year and protect against all Covid variants – Alpha, Delta, Omicron among others – could be available. “I hope that by the autumn, but it’s not a certainty, we could have a vaccine that is effective against everything that is known at the moment. Once we know what the best way forward is, we will apply for registration worldwide,” said Albert Bourla, head of Pfizer vaccine. He added: “For me and for Pfizer, what the world really needs now is a vaccine that can last a year. That would be the optimal solution in terms of public health. Vaccines that can be taken once a year are easier to administer and easier to convince people to take and we are working on that.” Like the rest of the world we are waiting for this vaccine!
