The former Commissioner of Police and former Minister of Environment, Raj Dayal will have to face trial for the charge of ‘bribery of public official’. The magistrates Naddiyya Dauhoo and Nalini Senevrayar-Cunden gave their ruling today before the Financial Division of the Intermediary Court. They rejected the former minister’s request to stop the proceedings. Raj Dayal’s request is based on 3 factors, namely his health condition, how lengthy this case has been and how it has been restarted several times.
As refresher, Raj Dayal had been arrested in 2016 while he was still the Minister of Environment. He had been accused of soliciting a bribe from the businessman, Patrick Soobhany in exchange of a permit.
