At the end of a very high level final, Liverpool won the League Cup against Chelsea this Sunday (0-0, 11-10 tab)! If there was no goal in this final, it’s mainly because of the goalkeepers Mendy and Kelleher who made a lot of good saves during 120 minutes. But also because of the VAR that refused a goal of Matip, for a foul of Van Dijk, and another one of Lukaku, for an offside of a few centimeters.
The two Red Devils came on in the game, Lukaku in the 73rd minute, Origi in the 97th, and each scored their shot on goal. The guard Kepa Arrizabalaga, who came on just before the session, was the only one of the 22 players to fail in the terrible test. Lukaku also scored a goal, cancelled for an offside position.
And then it was the turn of the outfield players to take the power in the penalty shootout – before which Tuchel had decided to bring in Kepa instead of Mendy in the London cage – as the goalkeepers failed on all the opposing attempts. Until the failure of… Kepa! Beaten by Kelleher just before, the Spanish keeper sent his shot over. Lost bet for Tuchel.
For Origi, this is the 5th trophy won with Liverpool after a Champions League (2019), the UEFA Supercup (2019), the Club World Cup (2019) and the Premier League (2020).
