Bruneau Laurette To Remain In Custody Despite Favorable Ruling

Must Read

In the Moka court earlier this afternoon, the magistrate granted Bruneau Laurette his freedom on bail of Rs 1 million. But as soon as Magistrate Jade Ngan made her decision, the DPP’s office appealed against the decision. The case will now be taken to the Supreme Court. In the meantime, Bruneau Laurette remains in detention. The magistrate had set Bruneau Laurette’s bail at Rs 1 million. The activist also had to sign an IOU for Rs 50 million.

The judgement was to be delivered yesterday. But due to the hurricane alert 3, the courts were closed. As a result, Bruneau Laurette’s fate was decided on Tuesday 21 February.

He has been in detention since 4 November, after the discovery and seizure of more than 40 kilos of hashish at his home in Petit Verger.

As a result, the activist-politician will have to remain in detention while the DPP submits his appeal to the Supreme Court. The DPP’s office has 7 days to do so. In the Laurette camp, there is still optimism.
